An Apple a Day

I recently spent several days in the hospital. While that is a not a wonderful experience, there was something that made it even worse than it already was.

Room mates. I had 3 of them during the 5 days I was there.

#1 roommate was, I believe, quite a few bricks short of a load. She was a screamer who had her shoulder and arm broken. I can't imagine how horribly painful that must have been. I can imagine how many times (6) I was awoken from a drug induced, painful sleep by her shrieks. Honey, come on. Yes, it is painful, we all know that. At some point though, one must suck it up and stop with the screaming. Save it for when someone is trying to slit your throat.
Also, calling the nurse over the little intercom thing and telling her "my vagina really itches!" is just not cool. No one needs to know that except the nurse. Ask her to come in and then tell her in private. Sheesh.

#2 roommate was a tall woman who cried almost the entire time. I never did really figure out what was wrong with her other than she had massive stomach issues (ulcers, etc..) and could not keep anything down and was in a lot of pain.
What I did know about her was her family situation. We were in a small room separated by a curtain. On my side of the bed was me in bed on her side of the room was her in bed, her mother, father, two daughters and one toddler boy. Even if you don't have children you know that putting a toddler in a small room with lots of people and lots of cool things to touch and look at is a bad idea. Non stop screaming at little Johnny. Two teen daughters texting and talking on the phone, beeping, ringing, laughing.
The patient was very rude to the nurses and anyone who crossed her path really. Not fun.

#3 roommate was an elderly woman who was really quiet actually. She didn't cause much trouble at all and we got along fine. She had the joy of listening to me vomit numerous times so she probably is writing a blog post about me! Her elderly husband in a wheel chair came to visit. He was accompanied by a young woman. From the moment he entered her part of the room he sneezed, coughed, snorted, blew his nose, etc... and kept saying he had chills and didn't feel well. The nurse came in for something and ended up telling the young woman that he needed to go since he was not feeling well. The young woman said ok and they left. About an hour later, the girl came back and told the older lady that she had taken the old guy to the E.R. and that he had pneumonia. Well boy howdy. Thanks for spreading that all around a post surgical floor where there are a ton of people trying to recover. People are dumb no way around it.

I really hope that I don't have to be a patient at the hospital again any time soon.

A little of this, some of that..

OK, I know ads are a necessary evil, pays the bills so to speak, with that said, if you are going to make me watch an ad before I can watch my internet video, I have a few demands er requests..
  • Let me mute it or close it, don take away the damn controls. I usually run my computer with the sound muted because of arsehatty websites who have multimedia ads that start blaring crap!

  • ROTATE the content of the ads, do NOT make me watch the same 30 second ad with each and every video on your site!

  • I am slightly annoyed by the ones that let you skip the ad after 5 seconds or so, because those had have teaser beginnings and I 'almost' want to watch the ad, but then a little voice in my head screams, GET OUT OF MY HEAD, YOU CAN'T MAKE ME WATCH YOUR CRAP!!
Note to advertisers: I know you think you are being clever, but I do remember your name and will never buy from you if you piss me off. NEVER.

And FFS don't drop some bomb on me, hidden at the top or bottom of the web page, so I have to search for it to shut your unwanted shiat off. There are several websites I no longer view because of such shenanigans.. And again, NEVER.

I was thinking the other day, as some asshat pissed me off for some reason or another.. That a lot of what we do pissed off others.. Some things can be written off as an honest mistake, but somethings?

  • Changing lanes in front of someone and making a left turn at the very next intersection. Now if there was room behind the car you cut off, you sir or madam, are an asshat!

  • I have kids, and eat out frequently. But if you take your kids out to dinner (or anywhere for that matter) and do not parent you children, let them run wild, those poor kids have an asshat or two for parents..

  • Can't wait your turn in line, or even those who don't like lines and stand sloppy, confusing others, and allowing those who don't like to wait the excuse to cut.. All ya'll is asshats!

  • I like to be able to hear my music, sometimes crank it up, but if I can hear your crap from a block away.. You know it, you know the drill..  The hat fits..

  • Read the damn signs! If the sale mentions specific items are on sale, don't grab random stuff then argue with the cashier, while I am waiting in line behind you, about how you should get a discount because you can not be bothered to read!

  • Sometimes a driver has only a few seconds, literally, to make that left turn or get through specific intersections.  So when the light changes, don't take that moment to fall asleep at the wheel, or take your damn time..  And pedestrians?  Those intersections are ones you do not want to get in front of my car, during my few seconds of opportunity, jaywalking your big ol' asshat head, robbing me of my turn..

  • Speaking of pedestrians, what is so damn hard about waiting until you walk your carless ass to the intersection and wait for the light before you cross the street?  I mean its simple physics people..  Even if you are 250, 350, hell 400 pounds, my made-in-the-usa hunka junk WILL be the winner if we happen to meet in the street.  And I am not in the mood to scrape asshat off of the bottom of my car, knowwhatImean?
Ok, well I am tired so will say good night to you kind gentlemen and gentlewomen..  Good night I say!

Accidents happen but sometimes they don't have to.

Accidents do happen. I realize that and I understand that.

But don't tell me that a small child that gets ahold of a loaded gun and shoots himself or another child is an accident. That is negligence on the adult's part that owns the gun. You feel the need to have a loaded gun in your house? Then keep it where a child cannot get it. Don't put it between the headboard and the mattress and then call it an accident when your 3 year old shoots his one year old brother. YOU need to go to jail. No ifs, ands or buts. This really makes me angry.

In a city near us a little 9 year old boy was messing around the train tracks and tried to jump on a moving train. I will wait and let that sink in a minute. He slipped and his legs went under the train severing his feet off just above the ankles. I just cannot fathom this, but it happened. Of course, I feel that a 9 year old has NO BUSINESS running around a city alone or playing near rail road tracks. What the heck people? Keep an eye on your children and the neighborhood children.

People are so worried now that they can't say something to kids that don't belong to them. Personally, I don't give a crap what anyone thinks, if I would have seen a 9 year old playing around the train tracks, I would have told him to get the heck out of there and if he didn't? Call the police.

Stuff like this just should not happen.

Sometimes you just can't win.

If you are or were a smoker you will understand this post very well. When a person smokes it does not matter what ailment they have, it is caused by smoking. Bad back? Well, if you didn't smoke, it would get better. Ingrown toenail? Well you have poor blood circulation because you smoke and on and on and on.

I went to the doctor yesterday for a check up. We did the usual stuff and then she asked me about smoking. I told her that I hadn't smoked a real cigarette in 2 weeks, but that I have been smoking an electronic cigarette. So technically not quit altogether, but working on it.
She was all "Oh that's great! Way to go!".

And then in the next breath.....wait for it...wait for it...

She says "Well now we can work on losing weight!"

For one minute couldn't we just bask in the warm glow of the fact that after 30 freaking years I have the desire and will power to quit smoking?
No. Now every.single.farking.thing will be attributed to my weight.
I can't win.

Random Rants

Flushing urinals.  Are the guys who do not flush saving the environment by not wasting water or lazy SOB's who refuse to clean their messes? Either way, I do not want to see or smell your piss!

Reality shows that take 10 minutes of content and stretch it over an hour..  I understand they want you to keep you there to watch their commercials, but c'mon..  Actually, swear to god, saw one show what teased they would explain something 'when they come back' had two more breaks, and it was THE NEXT EPISODE that explained it.  Un-friken-believable!

VIP's. These people are so much more important than the rest of us.  They drop there trash wherever, flick their butts, they don't care, they even have other people flush their urinals!  They do not have to wait their turn, bullies who push their way to the front of the line, idiots weave in and out of traffic to save a few seconds, or those who's need to speed somehow trumps my need to drive at a safe speed. Keep on tailgating me there sport.  I swear, only the fact that my kids were riding with me has stopped me from slamming on the breaks on more than one occasion.  One of these days sport, my kids wont be in my car, and you will be in my backseat.

Corporations taking over America, spreading their mediocrity everywhere!  Same damn stores EVERYWHERE!  Go to yer average mall and the same stores, same eateries, same kiosks..  No matter where you go, there you are..

Poppin Tags. My better half already ranted about this, but it bears repeating.  You’re a THRIFT STORE, selling items DONATED to you, and some of these stores pay less than slavewages  to its workers..  like TWENTY-TWO FARKING CENTS?!  And you have the nerve to sell work shoes for 50 bucks?  Broken items or jigsaw puzzles with missing pieces? C'mon..

Jaywalkers drive me NUTZ! I do not understand why they think it is ok to drunkenly stagger out into traffic in the middle of the street, or against the light at the crosswalk, or, FTLOG, walk down the middle of a residential street almost daring someone to hit them.  Pull up your pants and GTF out of my way you punks, and while yer at it, get off my lawn!

Speaking of my lawn.  I kid you not, I have lived 50 years on this earth, and NEVER have I seen people who will cop a squat on people property, people they do not know!  I mean when I was a kid, running wild around the hood, I would stop and sit on the steps or lawns or porches of people  I KNEW, it was called being neighborly.  In my current neighborhood, we have people, kids and adults, who see no problem sitting on someone’s steps or porch, just to hang out, smoke a joint.  We have a fenced yard, with a gate just past the couple steps of the sidewalk, and this Mexican family who will sit on those steps and wait for their kids schoolbus, at least they did.  I do not know them, they do not know me.  WTH people!

Well, hope you are having a better day than me.  L8ter.. =)

Yield

I completely understand that pedestrians have the right of way when crossing the street.
However. (there is always a however, isn't there?)
When you cross a very busy street, AGAINST the light and make traffic come to a complete stop, you are taking a big chance. You are also making a lot of people angry, including me.
Today as I was driving down a busy street in the city, I saw a woman step off the curb against the light about half a block ahead of me. She was lucky that everyone saw her and didn't hit her, because frankly people get hit every day.
I slowed down and came to a complete stop in the intersection waiting for her to hurry the heck up and get across. She walked slowly and seemed to not have a care in the world. Switched her big ol' purse from one shoulder to the other. She looked over at me as I was giving her my very best stink eye telepathic message. She just raised her eyebrows and gave me the 'I really don't give a crap about anyone" look.
I turned and looked at the car next to me and caught the eye of the woman driving the SUV. She just slowly shook her head while rolling her eyes.

I have a feeling she was thinking the same thing as me. "I really want to mow her ass down, but prison is so unappealing."

Poppin' Tags

I love to shop at thrift stores.

However, in the last couple of years the prices at thrift stores have become department store prices and I do not like that.

Many times for the prices they charge I could go to a store and buy something new.

As far as I am concerned when I buy used clothing at a thrift store it should be pretty cheap. Maybe a little more than garage sale prices because I do understand they have overhead, but come on.

$19.99 for a pair of used shoes?

$29.99 for a used Gap dress? Really?

I think not.

Non Rant: Something really cool that I read on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' facebook page is that they take the shirts that they wear in concert to thrift stores and donate them so that fans that can't afford to buy new shirts on the website can still show their support. Anyone want to go to Seattle?

Who knew?

Who knew that if you prepared a dish and made it too spicy that you could put a Tablespoon of peanut butter in it, stir it up and the heat would be reduced significantly? I swear, the google can tell you anything!

Also, to our neighbor with the big barking dog: You, sir, are a twit. Tying your dog up on a chain and letting that chain reach juuuuuussssst about to the sidewalk is really crappy. I know you do it to scare people to death that are out for a nice stroll and you are probably inside laughing when you see it happen. Some day someone's going to be really angry at you for scaring them, their children, their grandmother, whoever and they are going to take matters into their own hands. I just hope that no one takes out their anger on the dog, because the true problem is not the animal, but the owner.

Things She Hates

Skinny women who say "Oh I am sooo fat" when patting their flat belly.

People who say I LOVE to exercise. Bullshit. You do not LOVE it and if you do think you love it , you don't know what love is.

Liars.

Bullies.

Parents who don't parent their kids. You had them, you parent them.

People who have never had any kids who tell you how to parent yours.

People who water their lawn on timers, even when it has rained, they still water. Stop it.

People who think that having a green lawn "means" something. African children are dying of thirst.

And last but certainly not least:

Summer.

Reaching for another bite of dinner and finding out there’s no more food.

People who chew with their mouth open

 Name droppers

I hate how teachers held me to different standards when I was in school.  'You can do so much better' heres a D.

 Autocorrect does not recognize 'asshat'

Attention whores.  HEY!  Lookit me.  No, ME, lookit Meeeeee!

Stupid laws that punish honest mistakes and let the truly guilty off with a slap on the wrist

People who will hear my hates and assume I am nothing but a raging ball of fury.

And I would hate it if you did not have a very good day..

Stop it.

#1. If you are posting a bunch of recipes on facebook, then you need to stop it. Facebook is not for recipes. Pinterest is the place for that. You say you are posting them on facebook because you want to "keep" them or so that you can find them. You will not be able to find them easily. So stop it. You will find it MUCH easier to pin them to a food board in Pinterest. Do I have to tell you people everything??

#2. The phrase "It is what it is". Stop saying that. It irritates the hell outta me. The urban dictionary sums it up quite nicely.
It is what it is: "A trite, overused and infuriatingly meaningless cliche that is utilized by provincials who think they are adding some deep, meaningful insight during a discussion when all they are offering is senseless, unwarranted repetitiveness to what would otherwise be a far better conversation had they not shown the shallowness of the gene pool they spawned from by using this asininely useless and redundant phrase to begin with."
Thank you.

Joes what pissed me off this week..

Driving Joe  You were in front of me at the stoplight.  The light changed and you either did not notice or did not care.  I tapped my horn after 10 seconds, you laid on yours and peeled out.. Impressed the hell out of me. Not.

Joe Roadrage  (Not the same guy) Ok, this didn't happened to me directly, but this commercial perfectly describes the type of arsehole I see on the road EACH and EVERY day..

Josephine Shopper  Had lots of cart-related shenanigans this week. From some cracked out chickie at the grocery who almost run my girlfriend and I over as she stumbled her way down the asile.. THEN,at a different store a totally different woman left her DAMN CART in behind my car.  She couldn't be bothered to put the cart in the corral which was TEN DAMN FEET away..  The lazy in some makes me tired..

Hope ya'll have a great day!

It's all fun and games until the IUD goes missing

My fella and I wax-poetic about having a baby together, but we both know we are too old. I mean, I suppose it could be done, but it probably wouldn't be the best thing for a child to have parents our age and wouldn't be the best thing for us at our age to start all over again, kid wise. Our combined children range in age from 12 years to 26 years.
So to get to the point of this post. Birth control. Who knew that getting older really limits the number of available and healthy birth control options for a woman.
After consulting with my doctor I had a Mirena IUD placed. It was an easy process, good for women my age, what could go wrong?
Fast forward 5 years and 3 months. Knowing that after 5 years it needs to be replaced I called my doctor and set up an appointment with a gynecologist to have the IUD removed and replaced.  It could all be done at the same appointment and other than worrying that it might hurt a little, all was well.
I always have to mentally prepare for appointments like this. The word that comes to mind when I think of stuff like this: Uncomfortable.
So I am on my back, feet in stirrups and trying to look at the ceiling like this is the easiest thing in the world.

The doctor, says "So when did you have your IUD placed?"
I replied a little over 5 years ago.
"Hmmmm" she says.
I asked her if there was a problem and she replied she wasn't sure.

At that moment, my life flashed before my eyes.
Ovarian/uterine/cervical cancer were the first things that came to mind.
(Oh btw, I should mention that I can escalate a situation from 0 to dying in mere seconds).
I was becoming uncomfortable with her probing and rooting around "up there". I swear to goodness she was up to her elbows.

"I don't see an IUD" she says.
This is when my voice went two octaves higher and just a little bit louder.
"WHAT?" I said, "OF COURSE there is an IUD, I have had it for 5 years".

Well, she couldn't see one and who am I to argue with a doctor. I then had an x-ray to see if it could be seen that way. Nope, no sign of it. Two days later I went in for an ultra-sound. A trans-vaginal ultrasound. (That is a post all on it's own.) Still don't see an IUD anywhere and no babies either. (I asked, haha)
I was and am still in sort of a state of shock. They are assuming that it fell out. It's not like it is microscopic, so really I would think that I would have felt it coming out. Apparently not.

The IUD is the ONLY birth control the fella and I have been using for the last 5 years. Who knows how long we have been having unprotected sex?? Talk about totally freaking out.

Now that I have had this issue I have read and heard how common it is for these IUDS to be expelled or dislodged. Quite frequently, I guess. Which I had NO idea could happen. I suppose I should have researched it a little better or asked more questions when I had it put in, but I believed my doctor and trusted her to provide me with a good birth control option. Live and learn, I will research more next time!
Let's just say this has been one stressful week.

Lying liars, pants afire..

McDonalds Dollar Menu Commercials.
Sure it’s cute to pretend to talk to dollar bills, claiming they have value because they can purchase a drink, or a fry, or something else off the dollar menu..  BUT YOU CAN’T BUY ANYTHING OFF THE DOLLAR MENU FOR ONLY A BUCK!!!  There is tax, and the price plus the tax is MORE than a stinking dollar!!1!

Food what looks NOTHING like the pictures or ads.
I think I have lost track of the times I've drunkenly staggered into some fast-food joint, lured by the warm mouth-watering smells and drool-inducing pictures only to be served something that looks like it just came unstuck from the bottom of a crackho’s foot.

It's so common, there is a photo blog just to compare the advertising with reality, and the results are as depressing as they are expected.

Although corporations are legally obliged to use real food in their promotional pictures, there’s no law saying they can’t airbrush it, use pots of goo, motor oil, shoe polish, or any other crap they can find.  Anything they can do to make that crappy burger look appetizing, food photographers will do it, and companies will falsely claim it’s what you will get when you fork over your cash.

News.
And don’t get me started on politics or 'news' reports.  The lies will be repeated over and over again.  When finally exposed, the truth will never see the light of day, or will be softly spoken once, and only once.

If commercials were honest it would look like this

Not only do they lie, but they CRANK UP THE DAMN VOLUMNE when I forget to fast forward through the commercials!

When cable TV first began to be offered in my area (gads I am old eh?) in the very early 1980s, one of the benefits touted was that cable networks were going to be commercial-free, paid for completely by subscription fees. REMEMBER THAT, FOLKS?

Some things were just too good to be true.  Skechers 'Shape-Up' shoes.  The company agreed to pay $40 million to settle charges by the FTC and the attorneys general of 42 states.  One of the company’s misleading tactics involved a chiropractor who, in a TV ad, endorsed the shoes’ effectiveness based on a study. However, the company paid for the study and the chiropractor was married to a company’s marketing executive.

Unlimited Data.  Almost all phone companies (cable companies, phone companies) tout unlimited data plans in its ads.  What this means in reality is 2-5GB a month.  A California man won a small-claims suit last month that says AT&T’s plans are not exactly 'unlimited' since the ruling proves AT&T broke its promise by deliberately slowing the service when he became one of the company's most active users.

The list can go on and on and on..  But ranting about this makes me sad..  So I will stop now..
If its too good to be true, it is.
Nothing is free.
Vote for Pedro!

House Hunters

I love all things HGTV. I am a sucker for watching all the fixer upper shows.
I watch a lot of House Hunters and wow, the people on there are really irritating.
People are so picky. You would think that they are Princes or Princesses when they are looking for a castle house.
I hate when they have their noses up in the air at paint color and carpet. Seriously? You are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a house and you can't afford to have someone paint the living room? Rip out some carpet and finish the hardwoods?
I have lived in some pretty darn nasty houses and once you get your own stuff in there, things look and feel so much better. Sure there are things that you want to change here and there, but if you wanted a new house you should have built one!
I don't know, maybe it is because I am getting older that houses don't mean that much to me anymore.
A home is way more important than the house.

They keep on lying to us, and we're too stupid to even know it?

Did you know that "Lucky Bamboo", a common office decoration frequently marketed as a Chinese good luck symbol, is neither bamboo nor even from Asia; it's a shrub from west Africa?

Let's have a spelling bee!

I occasionally misspell words. I think most everyone does.
However, there are some people who continually misspell words and even joke about how horrible of a speller they are. Ha, ha. How funny.
I am just going to come out with it. Ok, so you cannot spell. Somehow you made it all the way through high school and probably even college and still cannot spell. (BTW, where were the parents of these children who could not spell? Didn't you notice that little Johnny wasn't spelling worth crap? Seriously.)
Bad spelling doesn't make you less intelligent, but it doesn't make you look like Albert Einstein either.
Here's a solution! LEARN how to spell. Take some classes, get a tutor. Read some books or look online because I can almost guarantee you that there is something somewhere that will help you learn how to spell. Maybe even a youtube video for crying out loud.
Stop joking about what a horrible speller you are and do something about it! You are driving me crazy!
P.S. I have proof read this post about ten times and used spell check. :)

Using religion as a club

It amazes and saddens me when you hear 'religious' people talk and act in ways that contradicts the teachings of their religion.  This post was forwarded to me recently and I totally agree with everything it says.

We are all in this boat together people.  What happens to the least, happens to us all.

Have a better day..

It's not the 4th of July

I get it, people love fireworks.
Fourth of July and celebrating the New Year are two times that I think fireworks are appropriate.
I have never been a huge fan of shooting them off myself but I don't mind watching the big aerial shows.
Where I grew up it was usually so dry that no one was allowed to shoot them off anyway.
What irritates me is when people continue to shoot loud fireworks long after the 4th of July.
It's annoying, it's loud and it scares me. When I get scared I get mad. Not sure why that is, but I do and it isn't pretty.
Every time I hear another one go off I get the urge to just go out and cram a bottle rocket up someone's nose and ask them how much they love fireworks now! Stop. Don't make me into a violent person.

Howyoudoin?

Hi, its the 'He' of She Rants (and So Does He).  HowareYOUdoin?

I too have been looking for a safe place to have to let loose with my rants.  I have had a blog before, but didn't do much with it.

Here is a gem from one of my favorite 'ranty' sites SarcasticSarcasms

What it's all about

Let's face it. We all have things we would love to rant about. Things that just really eat you up on the inside because you have no where to go with those thoughts.
A lot of people use Facebook for venting and that is fine, but there are just some things that I don't feel like discussing with people in my real life. Maybe I don't want or need their comments/help/whatever so I just don't post them there. People get bent out of shape way too often and I just don't like having to sensor everything I say.

Twitter is a great place, but has such a limited number of characters that good rants just surpass.

So that leaves a blog.

I am not new to the blogging world. I was a blogger back before blogging was so cool. When it was like a big family and everyone commented and we all had a good ol' time. Before "mommy bloggers" were making tons of money. Back then I don't think anyone even had ads on their blogs! Imagine that!
Things are different now, but hey, change is inevitable and for the most part, good.
I am throwing my hat back into the ring along with the hat of my significant other.
We will both be posting things on here and "admin-ing" this space.

At some point, hopefully, we will accept guest "rants" that we will post. It can be anything from how people STILL do not know how to use the self checkout at the grocery store. (Wait, that is one of mine) or  my neighbor lets their dog bark nonstop and what I am gonna do about it. General or personal, your choice.
There will be rules that will be non negotiable and we reserve the right to add more rules as we go along.
1. No slurs or insults toward any race, sexual orientation, religion or individual person.
2. No real names. (So your Aunt Betty Jones from Watertown gave everyone food poisoning with her green bean casserole, we don't need to know her name to make the rant good.)
3. Profanity should be kept to a minimum.
4. We reserve the right to not post a rant if we feel it is not following the rules.

We are on the fence about letting people comment on the rants. Maybe we will let the rant writer determine whether they want feedback/comments or not. If we do let people comment, they WILL be moderated and will not be allowed through if they are not constructive. One of my biggest rants is when people comment on anything (news stories, etc...) and they say things that are just blatantly hurtful and rude.  That's just not what I want this site to be all about. People do disagree with others and that is fine, but a polite conversation is much better than slamming someone.
Bottom line?
Play nice with other people.
